The National Museum of Resistance and Freedom is born out of the recognition of the Peniche Fortress as a place of memory and a symbol of the national struggle for freedom. It has international resonances in the ancestral and current struggle for Democracy and respect for Human Rights.
With a multidisciplinary nature, the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom is meant to research, preserve and communicate the national memory related to the Resistance to the fascist portuguese regime, based on the memories of those men and women who resisted fascism and fought for Liberty and Democracy.
